Give Back with the Future | Saturday, November 8 | 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. | Newport Intermediate School
On Saturday, November 8, GBC volunteers will pair up with Boys & Girls Club’s “Keystone Club” teens in another Give Back with the Future project. Personal stories of hope and encouragement will will serve as the inspiration for the day’s service project.
Volunteers and teens will be involved in creating a “HOPE” boxes, to be filled with items such as bookmarks, shrinky dink jewelry, and more. The “HOPE” boxes will be donated to the students of Newport Intermediate School who demonstrate improved academic performance throughout the school year.
This project came to the attention of GBC through a connection with Faces without Places (FwP), a social service organization that provides educational and enrichment programming, school transportation and supplies, and other specialized services to thousands of children and youth experiencing homelessness each year in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Newport Intermediate School is one of many schools in the area who benefit each year from FwP services.
Statistically, 89% of the students at Newport Intermediate receive free or reduced lunch, with 12% identified as experiencing homelessness. The school also performed the 2nd lowest in the State of Kentucky ranking 729 out of 730 elementary schools. But through hard work and taking measures in focusing on giving their students “HOPE” this past year they are now considered a Kentucky High-Progress School demonstrating more academic growth compared to other elementary schools in the state.
The “HOPE” boxes that GBC volunteers & Boys & Girls Club teens will be create during Give Back with The Future will serve to help Newport Intermediate School continue to improve academically by helping them continue to inspire, motivate, and instill HOPE to among their well-deserved students.
