Information
This 3 part series is a caucus for people who want to become anti-racist, anti-supremacist allies and examine their own ideas about race and racism. Our goal is to develop awareness, knowledge, and skills that will enable us to work in solidarity with others towards racial justice in our broader community. The Aspiring Anti-Racist Allies series will aim to critically explore historical and systemic constructions of whiteness as they relate to systemic racism, identify manifestations of white privilege and racism in our everyday lives, shift focus from individual instances of white privilege and racism to broader systemic understandings of white supremacy, and develop a critical, antiracist white identity, in order to effectively take action for racial justice. The 3 sessions will be comprised of the following themes:- Creation of Whiteness and Socialization of Racism
- Why and how to have hard conversations about race as white people as well as the history and socialization of racism
- White Identity Development
- Confronting white fragility and unpacking white privilege
- Allyship, Advocacy, and Taking Action
- What does it mean to be an effective ally and where do we go from here
